Information from the Internet
has now permeated all aspects of life from aardvarks to zeppelins.
It should come at no surprise then that there are many web sites
that can be useful for local zoning administration. These include
state laws such as the Ohio Revised Code; entire local zoning codes
and resolutions; sites that provide links to other sites; and forums
where you can post your questions and receive answers. We couldn’t
possibly even begin to list them all here, but we can give you a few
addresses for useful sites and some hints in accessing them.
Remember, zoning in Ohio
townships is limited to what is permitted by the Ohio Revised Code.
Particular zoning provisions in cities, villages and in other states
may not directly apply.
There are some general web sites
that can lead to more additional sites than you will care to think
about. Here are a few.
Cyburbia
(www.cyburbia.org).
This is a good starting point. It provides a resource directory on
a wide variety of topics including zoning, land use, economic
development and architecture. It also provides several forums on
various top where you can post questions.
Planetizen
(www.planetizen.com).
You can get here from a link from Cyburbia or go directly.
Planetizen provides a lot of articles on planning and land use
issues including jobs.
Plannersweb (Planning
Commissioner’s Journal; (www.plannersweb.com).
This is a good site to help learn the ropes of being on a planning
or zoning commission. Full access to the site’s products does
require membership and/or a fee.
American Planning Association (APA)
and the Ohio Planning Conference (OPC) (www.ohioplanning.org).
These are good places for planning information. Membership to the
organizations is necessary for access to some of the information and
services.
Ohio Township Association
(www.ohiotownships.org).
This is a must site to keep up on proposed state laws that will
affect your township. It provides a lot of useful links too.
State and Local Government on
the Net (www.statelocalgov.net).
This site gives a long list of state government departments and
local government web sites. It is very useful for information and
making contacts.
Other more specific sites are
also useful.
Anderson Publishing
(http://onlinedocs.andersonpublishing.com)
This site can clear off a lot of your bookshelf space. It provides
a regularly updated Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code,
Judicial Decisions and Rules. And it is searchable meaning you can
ask for information on a topic without knowing specifically where to
look.
Medina County
(www.co.medina.oh.us)
Local government information and access is provided here.
If we can be of any additional
assistance or if you come across any good web sites let us know and
happy surfing.
